I read today about a coastal California town that has been sliding towards the Pacific ocean for years. Now part the highway has slid into the ocean. The property owners are concerned about their property values. I would think that the property values would be the least of their worries. To further pursue this, I would think that the property values and their relationship to the ocean might have persuaded the local homeowners  to reconsider their  purchase. Now with the natural cycle of  earth movement their investment has become a victim of that natural occurrence. I  have tried to understand the thought process behind the building of towns and cities along fault lines and in areas that are active geological areas, given that many cities and towns were settled long before the science of geology, seismology and weather systems were as advanced as they are, I think the locations were selected because of the local natural resources and convenience to available transportation hubs. This is the land of the free and people are free to live wherever they want even in the path of natures perils.
