Listening to “On Point” this morning the subject was the economy and related issues. One person sitting in on the conversation was Mo Brooks, congressman from Alabama’s 5th District. He’s a member of the Republican Study Committee, which works to advance a conservative social and economic agenda in the U.S. House. The other was O’Keefe, congressional reporter at the Washington Post and David Wessel, economics editor for the Wall Street Journal and writes the Capital column, a weekly look at the economy. His latest book is Red Ink: Inside the High Stakes Politics of the Federal Budget. The Congressman spent more time trashing the Democrats rather than the entire Congress who are all at fault for this fiscal morass we are in. Listening to the entire show made clearer to me that our system has failed because we failed to change our Congress on a regular basis. There is no more fault than ours in trusting and rubber stamping the existing Congress while believing they really are representing the people. If you look back you will see the resistance of the congress to work on the Affordable Care Act but what they did was issue erroneous information designed to scare us and  rail against the president and his policies. With our minds wide shut we have spent the past 3 plus years assailing the Presidents work while Congress seeks more power to use against us.
