The Governors views and possible action on “assault weapons” is ludicrous as well as a political ploy. The Gov should be concentrating on getting the States fiscal house in order rather than  his cloying blurb on “assault Weapons”. I would venture to say that in Illinois the so called “assault weapons” are in hands of responsible collectors and owners rather than folks bent on wiping whole sectors of the population. It is clear that the Colorado event was perpetrated by a disturbed individual and you cannot legislate against “crazy”.  We can’t even legislate against our own “crazy” legislature let alone individuals. If the Governor really wants to do something useful, allow concealed carry. The current FOID rules could be modified to accommodate this if the legislature is not involved. Currently most individuals who would apply and qualify for concealed carry are already trained in the handling and use of firearms.
