The Congress of the United States aside from their formidable lack of ability to serve the public that has elected them time after time, has again shuffled around the issues that affect their constituency. Since the Congress pays nothing into Social Security, has an excellent health care plan and a pension that rivals many private companies high up executives, there is no apparent incentive to take care of us. We Americans will tsk-tsk the leaders of other countries that treat their citizenry as second class on an ongoing basis but we are currently living in similar conditions. Our standard of living has been so high for so long that we did not realize that we were being treated the same way. The Congress has received their COLA without fanfare or discussion (it’s part of their contract- which they wrote). Now when pressed to solve the Social Security mess (and many others) there is much shuffling of feet and dodging of responsibility while trying to please enough people to get reelected. There is no bi partisan Government, it is just a group of elected officials scratching one another’s back while stepping on ours.
