Most companies, organizations and groups have a slogan or mission statement that is designed to summarize their purpose. In looking at many of these I have seen that not many of them follow their own directives. A newspaper states it prints ” all news fit to print” but prints what it deems proper according to its political bent. A non profit espouses empowerment but fires its workers when they start to form a Union. The government says it is for the people but the people have no real say in what it does. The representatives elected by the people soon become part of the problem as the long term office holders and party leaders dictate what is pursued in the name of the people. I see a trend towards “tell the people anything until we get what we need from them”. The mission statements and slogans are no more than the “come ons” used by advertisers to sell a product.
