The ongoing saga of who should or is eligible to run for the Mayoral office of Chicago has reached a new low. The African-American candidates have played the Race card. What is now occurring is the same agenda that was fought against by the aspirants in their own candidacies now they are using same issue against some one else. Progress can only be made if people are willing to assume the mantle of reason in what they do on a daily basis. To use this issue of race against some one when you do not appreciate its inference towards your self is poor public relations and a personal failing. The implication is one of “its Ok for me to do it but not for you”. This is yet another face of the political morass we have become ensnared in. There is no honesty in politics as there is no honesty among thieves.

The idea of self preservation is becoming more of reality than a literary fancy . The fight or flight response kicks in at times of dire danger. This response needs to be in force when listening to the assorted political pundits and even more when listening to the political office holders or aspirants. The real program needs to be a questioning of what is being said by these office holders and aspirants. These questions need to be kept open until the true answers are made public. The public has long ignored the obvious problems until it turns around and bites them where it hurts. There is no greater reward than the truth being laid out where the everyday people can look at it and understand it. Politicians and their minions spend millions of our dollars to convince us that they are on our side while making side deals that do not or will not benefit the people who put them in office.

We continually fight uphill battles because our personal prejudices have been tweaked by the political establishment. The current of “scamocrats” and “dupublicans” have managed to split the Congress, arouse smaller factions who are pro or con as far as the elected politicians. There is also a deep racial divide that never seems to go away even in this so called modern age. It appears to be time for the modern voter. A modern voter is one who eschews the politispeak and buzz words while understanding the true value and gist of the office holders and seekers words. The Congressional group now in office and power has been the most egregious in their rhetoric recently but has and will suffer the most when the modern voters look carefully at how their words and deeds match up. It is easy to offer solutions to perceived problems but quite another participate in finding actual solutions. This is a perfect example of taking a sound bite out of context and using it for personal gain.

I was listening to a report on the immigrants from Sudan and other African States who have landed in Israel. There was one immigrant who has resided in Israel for 16 years with no visa, work permit or any hope of becoming a welcome citizen. The Israeli government has members who want to and are returning these expatriates to their countries with a few dollars and having paid their travel. The reason these people are leaving their countries is due to political strife and the inhumane treatment they are subjected to. One Parliament member has even suggested that the immigrants pose a threat to the country’s security and may soon outnumber native Israelis. Is it possible that the Israelis have forgotten the holocaust and the exodus?

Celebrity. fame and notoriety all elements of a well-known person. This celebration of a persons work or life has some often devastating effects. One aspect is the loss of personal privacy, one often cannot leave home without a parade of photographers and other hangers-on. the family of the celebrity has to endure the same unwanted entourage while going about their ordinary day. This siege takes place each time these people leave home, go to school and merely going out for a family outing. This ongoing assault influences behaviors that the public perceives as bad manners. Consider yourself being that person, would you like to be under constant scrutiny 24 hours a day?,need have body guards for you family just so they can do every day things that ordinary people take for granted. This public acknowledgment is at once a curse and a blessing brought on by just doing a job or performing a service. As related to politics, this problem affects many more parts of elected officials lives yet we continue to vote them in office despite their indiscretions and errors.

Looking back over that past years and I perceived) various parts of each year. I have determined that as one grows older and hopefully wiser many holiday (and special occasions) traditions appear to be geared more to the adults than children. Children of a certain age receive no enjoyment in the selection of the gifts and presents they receive but adults seem to delight in it and become visibly upset when the child enjoys the wrapping rather than the gift. Is the object of giving a way to ease the mind of the giver (parents) or another mindless holiday exercise that has the dubious task of enlightening the hearts of the public in trying times? The concept of giving is to offer something that will create enjoyment for that moment and beyond.

In this day of low rider jeans, hip huggers and baggies there is nothing left to say except we now need a new term for the multitude of rear private areas that inadvertently appear when someone stoops, bends or squats. The irreverent flash of skin, tattoos that end who knows where, the strings of skimpy undergarments and the inevitable crease at the base of the spine. This term should succinctly describe what is seen in as few words as possible. I am offering ” lower rear cleavage”.It is seemingly impossible for people who wear this apparel badly to see and understand how poorly these garments fit and in some cases are too small to be considered as a proper fit. While it is certainly not the place of a stranger to pass judgement on some one’s manner of dress but what that “look” does to the eye is almost painful. This is equivalent to appearing in someone’s home naked. What is being worn at home is one thing but in public there is a protocol that should be followed.
.

Our previous belief in the honesty and integrity of our elected officials has been all but discounted by the past 10 years of vote tampering, infidelity, misdeeds while in and out of office to the point where we do not have a good feeling about any of them. The constant fact is that we voters so desperately want to believe in them that we vote them in again and again even when their words are not true and honest. The existing political system relies heavily on who can make the most credible ( even if untrue) case against the opponent. When these allegations or slurs are proven to be false , it is already too late and the public has had decided and the decision is often tied in to our innate or learned prejudices. When if ever will the voting public begin to look beyond the relative comfort zone that is their own perception and vote for people who hopefully mirror their views but be ready to oust them if they are not measuring up? TERM LIMITS!!

When did being an American of any origin become a crime? Apparently the ideal American is being white unless the person is in a lower economic class then they become white trash. The true definition of an American is any person born in the Americas (including South America and Canada). What we have is Americans who are of Hispanic, Indian, European, African and Asian origins. Many of these origins existed long before Columbus, the Norsemen and other ancient explorers. Consider the now erased land bridge from Europe which brought the basis of many now Native American cultures to this country and other parts of the Americas. What of the very ancient mariners who crossed oceans to arrive and thrive on the shores of the Americas. It is well beyond time to amend the overall compartmentalized thinking in these Americas and unite as people of faith, spirituality and goodwill.

The measure is apparently not full. Each election season we voters forget (and apparently forgive) the lies and attacks on others used by office seekers. The theme that must always be in the forefront is that they have lied to us! It does not take an expert to understand that a person who has to assail the character of another probably has something to hide themselves. Not one of us is perfect and therefore pointing out the flaws of others to move ahead is not a good personal trait. Being imperfect is our lot as humans but we have the brain power to improve if we so desire. This trait to improve has been lacking in our elected officials and we still elect them time after time because of one thing they said in a speech that hit home for us individually. This one thing could have been a racial, religious or even semi political item but it still influenced us to give that office seeker our vote. Each election season we tend to spend more time examining the faults of candidates than their qualifications, voting record or public offerings. When a person seeks an office their entire family is in the spotlight and since no one of us is perfect , no family is perfect. This only means that family issues do not necessarily have anything to do with the candidates (new or incumbent) ability to serve once in office. We have become mere puppets in the political theater in even greater numbers than in the past due to the mass media available to us. We are advertised into buying sprees and into voting for office seekers who often do not deliver the goods. Can we as voters ever get beyond this cycle of manipulation? Of course we can but only if we put aside our innate prejudices and think with our real brains.
