Recent and past discussions regarding taxation, raising the debt ceiling, cutting programs or not. have dominated the news in every statehouse and the federal congress. Many of these politicians have been in office for so long they no longer know (or even care) about what the people want. They spend countless hours on our dime to convince us of what we need and want. Lets take the gambling portion of an Illinois debate on gambling. Gaming is a lucrative business that indeed does provide some employment and raises some tax revenue. What about the people who really cannot afford to gamble but do? We have the lottery which inspires even the poorest to play in hopes of the big win, the same applies to casinos. While there are no restrictions except being of legal age to gamble (21?), the poorest of us will take the chance to do so to hopefully enhance their lives. What if,taxes were raised instead of new gambling casinos put in place, would the poorest of us suffer any worse than we are now? We as voters are and have been scammed by both political parties for 20 or more years on more issues that most of us can name all under the guise of doing what the people want while benefitting only a small segment of the “people”. The game of politics is as tedious as chess to one who doesn’t understand it but fascinating none the less. Our political system has been broken and will never be mended by the current group of Scamocrats and Duplublicans. The so called constituents that the erstwhile political neer do wells throw out as the basis for their decisions are selected ideas of their staffers who conjure up “what the people want”.
