Recent sound bite by John Boehner puts the onus of polarization on us (the voters). Wow! This coming from a man who has made a point of castigating the President and his party for the past 3 years. He as a Congressional leader made no positive attempts to resolve the fiscal crisis and other important issues facing out country. This is the leadership we have allowed to evolve because we trusted them. With all of the infighting and positioning of disassociated factions vying for attention and public office, its little wonder we are polarized (or are we?). I believe the polarization comes from the specific targeting of certain interests with negative ads about another. This not only perpetuates old stereotypes but creates tensions as severe as antebellum days. We as voters are required by our own conscience to reject these polarizing efforts and create a new Congress with new rules and people. Each person who believes their single vote is not important is gravely mistaken and is following the path set before us by our political parties. We as voters need to begin the process of retooling our Congress and their term limits by first electing new people in our State legislatures with new term limits, new pay structures and the idea that we can unseat them when they fail. It is our right and duty to do this but the loss of a single vote plays into the political plan of keeping us in “our” place. Collectively we are Americans and the assorted colors, religions and personal opinions are what makes us Americans. We can no longer allow our assortment to be homogenized by the political right, left or Center. As a cohesive group we can turn the tide on self serving politicians who have nothing in mind but their own well-being. It starts with us in our individual states. The only group we require to lead us is each person acting for the same goal, a proper and correct Government.
