Monthly Archives: July 2014

The item below is indicative of the problems we have as voters. We all want everything to be solved by the government yet we do not support the government by voting out non functioning legislators who promise the world and give us nothing but promises and more election slogans. We can blame the president (whoever it is) but Congress likes it this way so they can act s saviors when the only saving they are doing is their own “a**es” and staying in office . There is nothing wrong with not liking a candidate for any reason but to after think is a waste of time when the problem has been in front of us all of the time and that problem is “535” folks who serve no one but themselves and once they retire (on our dime) they join forces with big donors to further undermine the legislative process with tons of money and donations.

Mitt Romney 2014?

Americans are so down on President Obama at the moment that, if they could do the 2012 election all over again, they’d overwhelmingly back the former Massachusetts governor’s bid. That’s just one finding in a brutal CNN poll, released Sunday, which shows Romney topping Obama in a re-election rematch by a whopping nine-point margin, 53 percent to 44 percent. That’s an even larger spread than CNN found in November, when a survey had Romney winning a redo 49 percent to 45 percent.

Two years ago, Obama won re-election with about 51 percent of the vote.

Of course, the poll should be taken with a grain of salt. While Obama is actually taking on the tough task of leading the nation, Romney is sitting comfortably on the sidelines. Still, the finding comes as foreign and domestic crises have sent Obama’s approval rating tumbling back to 40 percent, per Gallup.

Also in the CNN survey, a record-low 46 percent say Obama “shares [their] values,” while only 49 percent say he is “sincere in what he says,” also a record-low.

My  disappointment is in out Government. Specifically, my issue is the quality of the people we have elected for so many years. Since about  the mid 60’s through the early 80’s we have been on a downhill run as far as the capable  legislators we rely on to run our government. Too many of us never realize that Newly minted legislators and Presidents can never get their projected agendas completed. Washington D.C. is an entity that absorbs and reconfigure people like a walk in model maker. The nature of the beast is it has people in place who actually decide for us (whether we want to believe it or not) what moves forward or dies in limbo. These  “deciders” are the lobbyists and former legislators who work for special interests and non special interests to create and enact laws that may or may not be in the best interest of the country and the populace (us). Think about the last 20 years of elections- the internet and instant media coverage have posted and covered any spoken words from any and all candidates in an instant. This instant coverage is sometime erroneous and not easily corrected. This instant coverage has allowed the worst of us (and our innate fears) to be  used against candidates for office. These campaigns are worse than any physical shooting wars as they are essentially character assassinations. Ones family should never be a subject of scrutiny in an election. The measure of a candidate should be what she or He can bring to the table in spite of the “DC” box they are going into. We as voters owe the candidate of our choice and their opposition the courtesy of listening to their message and deciding if they can do the job as well as they can in spite of Washington. My disappointment is that too many of us are too caught up in hype to seek the real truth of what candidates are about and who their big money backers are, along with the agendas of those wealthy backers.

The common thread in out political system is the voting public. We as voters have access to a myriad of sources for information (formerly called news) yet we rely on from one to two main sources for that information. Any person over the age of 60 remembers when news was reported by people who genuinely cared about what they were presenting and made every effort to insure the accuracy and correctness of that content. Those who can will also recall when politicians actually worked for their constituents even though we winked at their indiscretions and errors. We as voters were more informed with more accuracy then than now. In the information age, the truth has a hard time keeping up with the non truth as information is instant and immediate but often incomplete. To get to the question” who is responsible-really?”. Answer appears to be the voters as we have allowed ourselves to advertised into “boxed” thinking. We have a political system divided by Red states, blue states , conservatives, liberals and on and on , we have stopped being just people with differences and making the effort to live with those differences to move the country in the correct direction. We are currently in the grips of a poorly functioning, divided government dominated by barrages of blurbs, sound bites and buzzwords which do no more than confuse and incite. It is small wonder that since WWII up to the end of the Vietnam era, we made progress and thereafter we started to go backwards in allowing inept political representatives make decisions that affect us many years later. Right now we have a High court that has in effect reversed years of progress in equal rights for all of us. Next shoe to drop will be reversals in the Affordable Care Act, the Congress will be delighted with this even though they are complicit in its failure by not participating in refining it rather than using it as a negative in a political campaign. These reversals are just a part of the overall failure of our seat fillers to do the job they are paid to do.  It would be a great blessing to have a unified government even with the differences in ideals but that cannot happen until we as voters remove ourselves from party loyalty and back people who Really have the interests of All of us in their minds and will fight for them.

As we now know and have believed the Rebels backed by Russia are out of control and now the UN is finally making moves to act. My personal observation is simply send UN forces to put down the rebels and restore Ukrainian sovereignty. Administer the required justice to the rebels up to and including imprisonment for the murders of a plane full of civilians. We all know that Russia is the force behind them and we should not stand still for it.  It is bad enough that the middle east is in a  precipitous position  without the threat of Russia asserting control over once held territories. Anyone believing we  (the UN) should not be involved is living in a fairy tale and keep I mind that there is a brewing issue with China and Japan which could at anytime grow. We have one more small but dangerous area, North Korea a regime that has allowed its people to starve while still threatening its neighbors and everyone else. We all need to pay attention to this as it could be our future.

Recent developments in Europe, Eastern Europe and the Middle East has held everyone’s attention. These developments while newsworthy have taken the focus off of the inept representatives here at home. The Congress of the United States is a broken and potentially corrupt group (both sides). These bozo’s have spent more time trying to stay in office and gain control than doing any real work. They have routinely assailed the President when he moved unilaterally to get work done, they have assailed him when he did nothing (as quick as they wanted) and yet they want to come across as the grown ups in the issue. When you have people like Sarah Palin, Dick Cheney and Karl Rove as spokes persons, one has to wonder about their agenda. This is not to say that the other party is any better but they have avoided putting their fate in the hands of radical and possibly racist headliners. I have watched as the Speaker announced a lawsuit against the President for doing “their” job, this means we will pay for yet another round of expensive legal battles which may or may not resolve or result in anything worth mentioning. What more could we ask for as a reason to vote for someone else when we have a legislature so obsessed with the pursuit of money and power that they do nothing of merit for the people who elected them (often)?

Three of the worlds richest men have issued an OP Ed stating the failure of Congress to get any work done. These very wealthy men have differing opinions on politics and probably several other  issues but they all agree we have do nothing Congress that is doing more harm than good to the American people whom they are fond of  issuing edicts in our names without our consent. The Congress is more concerned with staying in office than doing the work required by being in the office. It is of no importance whether you like the President or his party , the issue to be considered and remembered is that he (The President) has acted alone in more cases than possibly any other  in quite some time and it has been an action to keep us out of  wars, better our living standards with minimum wage  increases and insuring we do not keep fighting pointless wars that only drain our resources (human and monetary). The only thing we have to remember is our Congress  is not taking  our needs seriously and is assuming  we will still vote them in  again Lets do something different ! Change Congress!!

The article below is a perfect example of why we have an ineffective Government. It is no real importance which party has control of which house as neither are prime examples of what the government is supposed to be. This suit is more a media stunt and time waster as the issues have been resolved long before the recent SCOTUS ruling. In effect Mr. Boehner is suing on a dead issue. If one looks at what has happened : the Congress has stalled many initiatives from the White house and discussed them in the media rather than in the Congressional rooms where they should be addressed. This is yet another ploy to get misinformation, disinformation and half truths in the public eye for the purposes of elections and elections only. If you pay just a little attention to the news after this, you will see many pundits and Dupublicans hopping on “pop”. Meanwhile the Congress is still ineffective.

Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) writes in a Sunday op-ed for CNN that he is compelled to sue President Obama to restore balance to the federal government.

Obama, Boehner says, has repeatedly “circumvented the American people and their elected representatives through executive action.” In doing so, the president has shown a “flippant dismissal of the Constitution we are both sworn to defend,” Boehner says, adding that Obama’s actions are “utterly beneath the dignity of the office.”

Here’s the crux of his argument for filing suit:

In the end, the Constitution makes it clear that the President’s job is to faithfully execute the laws. And, in my view, the President has not faithfully executed the laws when it comes to a range of issues, including his health care law, energy regulations, foreign policy and education. […] Congress has its job to do, and so does the President. When there are conflicts like this — between the legislative branch and the executive branch — it is my view that it is our responsibility to stand up for this institution in which we serve, and for the Constitution. [CNN]

Obama has rejected the lawsuit as a “stunt.” And skeptics of the House GOP’s litigious streak are quick to point out that Obama has signed fewer executive orders than any president in the past century.

A Local well known store has an obvious rodent infestation. This problem exploded when the company changed pest control companies going for a cheaper price. The new company (starts with “T”) has a poor reputation of having a contract but being unable to control the situation. Previous company (starts with ” O”), had the situation under control. There was no problem with the bird seed in the garden area and in the pet department being ravaged, pooped and peed in and on. There were no errant rodents found dead in the aisles. To save money the Corporate bean counters changed companies and thereby created a potential health hazard for the workers and the customers. Save a buck-kill some customer and workers.

238 years ago this nation was founded, making us the new kid on the block as far as major nations in the world. There are some slight errors in the actual birth of this nation, the actual Declaration of Independence and the true founding of this nation. Those discrepancies are not enough to be a hindrance of any sort yet some purists will and have made a big deal of it. Aside form these small things , we need to look at our place in the world as a powerful nation. We have in the far and near past gotten involved in someway the affairs of other nations as participating partners, supporting partners and leading partners. In these modern times we are pressed into the position of being mediators as opposed to active participants. As the youngsters of the world community we are still learning the business and we sometimes make mistakes. We are often criticized for our inaction, over action and lack of action. As new kids we are prone to mistakes but we still put in our share and more. Where we need to improve first is on the home front, our current Congress has lost their way and the voters need to (or better yet), have to put them on the right path. That is only done by the vote and too many of us have forgotten that our voice is the vote. We have been advertised into apathy and misdirection for many years and we never realized the impact of it. As the youngsters we are, we have to look at everything with the pure eyes of children and not accept everything we are shown and told. Today July 4th, 2014, we celebrate correctly or not the birthday of America, where everyone wants to live and be free.
