It is easy to fall into the trap of political rhetoric on Race, party loyalty and idealistic outrage. It much harder to take a moment to take a realistic look and listen to what is being presented. For years many of us have succumbed to the major party’s talking points and anti “the other party” spiels. It appears we have become susceptible to entertainment politics and ignore the facts which many of us know but the lies sound so real. Neither parry is perfect or totally correct but we have this need to follow one or the other based on what is said in a sound bite or described in a “buzz word”. The truth knows no limits and may not excite a response like a “real sounding lie” but it is always the truth and cannot be denied no matter how much dirt or obfuscation is applied to it. I submit that we (voters) have and have always had the power control government by intelligent use of the ballot. Do not believe all elected officials have your best interests in mind. Politician have always used division to win an office and it still applies now. The trap is mass media presentations with more flash than substance that dangles “shiny objects” to distract us from the facts. The last 4 years have shown us that our Legislators (save a few) from Municipal to Federal are essentially in it for the money. This has been the pattern for decades when we were not as well informed as we are now. At this time we can correctly state that the legislative process is corrupt and can only be corrected by our intelligence in voting. It is time to stop the “few” from corrupting the many so we can approach some semblance of honest government ( which we deserve). The trap is addicting us to the faux truths of entertainment politics while the real “anti citizen politics” continues. ” WE have one job and that is to vote with intelligence”.

The 1921 Tulsa, Oklahoma massacre is making news again showing that Racism is nowhere near over. It is also true of the 1908 Springfield race riot which according to what was “reported” was due to a Black man saying something to a white woman (who lied as the truth came out later), it might be well to remember that 14 year old Emmett Till died over the same type of lie. Back to Springfield Illinois, there has ever been a recovery and barely an acknowledgment until the remnants of the devastation were unearthed when digging test sites for the upcoming rail “improvement” ON THE EASTSIDE! Where are the reparations for the losses from that tragedy? It is odd that the “new YMCA” has more importance than correcting the sins of the past that pushed the progress of the once prosperous EASTSIDE back 100 years. The EASTSIDE of Springfield is still essentially “light years” behind the westside in businesses and housing but not in disparagement. When will the EASTSIDE be made whole? Now there is a proposal for a sports complex on the Southside again leaving the EASTSIDE sucking wind much like our legislators.

It has become pretty much normal for many in the poLItical arena to obfuscate, “misspeak”, “nuance” wording or outright lie. To that end all words having to do with elected officials and their minions should highlight or capitalize the 2 letters that describe them best in PoLItics and words parsed from it. If you are old enough to vote then you have heard all or most of the “talking points” from both sides of the polititcal spectrum and all of the subsets associated with them. Some areas that some of us miss in reading or hearing about passed legislation is that many do not take effect immediately and many have an expiration date at which time things will revert to their former state for better or worse. Where we are right now in my opinion is: “If you are not outraged at the antics of our sitting legislators, then you are complicit!”

Apparently some members of Congress have seen the fallacy of the long lamented prefunding of retirement for Postal employees. The postal service is one of the most efficient methods of moving mail and packages in the US in spite of what many of us think. After 4 years of railing by the former guy who did nothing to resolve the issue beyond installing a big money supporter to head the postal service, we have members of Congress in the lead to resolve the issue of prefunding and enabling the service to evolve in a meaningful way. Let’s hope this gets done quickly without a Congressional kerfuffle that will disable the process (hear That Mitch?)

The GOP has spent months now denying the January 6 insurrection and fighting against the Biden infrastructure plans. You would think these so called representatives of the people would embrace any thing that helps “the people”. Unfortunately this is not true, the GOP has long been the party of “no” and each time they have been in power the people have suffered, their agendas have never been good for us as a country and more explicitly the people of color. Looking at current issues: After experiencing the January 6th insurrection, they are denying it’s effect, after 60 losing challenges in court about election fraud, they are still pushing the same narrative, During the TOTUS administration, “Vice president” McConnell has installed as many conservative judges as he could to swing the court system to the right which does not bode well for any of us. We as voters need to pay attention to the GOP’s words as they have proven to be false and they continue to spew misinformation and outright lies toward the idea of persuading voters to support them for the next election cycle. It is our (voters) job to be aware of the facts and remove them from office if possible or censure them at the polls. Unfortunately the GOP has made this a political party issue but it is in fact a dishonest elected official issue and unfortunately we have well over 100 hundred of them between both chambers. This is a struggle for our Democracy pure and simple. Remember that many of these “public servants” were happy with “tax reform” as their tax burdens were lowered , possibly less than many average tax payers. What are the reasons?, greed, self service and the effort to change the Constitution to suit themselves.

Biden’s American Jobs Plan

It is well documented that rural areas have no access to current information on government programs and how they affect their lives. As an example many do not know that Medicare is Government program and the ACA supplemented it. Due to the misinformation provided by their representatives in Congress many have missed out on medical care. It is possible that broadband access could have provided essential information on communication, health, weather and issues that directly affect their lives. We must be reminded that many members of Congress on both sides benefit from the Tax reform bill of 2017 directly or indirectly while taxpayers who make below $400 thousand pay the bills.

President Biden’s proposed $2 trillion infrastructure plan allocates:

  • $621 billion on roads, bridges, public transit, rail, ports, waterways, airports, and electric vehicles to improve air quality, reduce congestion, and limit greenhouse gas emissions
  • $400 billion to bolster caregiving for aging and disabled Americans
  • $300 billion toward boosting manufacturing, specifically semiconductor, medical, and clean manufacturing
  • $213 billion toward building, renovating, and retrofitting over two million homes and housing units
  • $180 billion to advance US leadership in critical technologies, upgrade research infrastructure, and establish the US as a leader in climate science, innovation, and research and development
  • $111 billion to rebuild water infrastructure and replace all of the nation’s lead pipes and service lines
  • $100 billion to build new public schools and upgrade existing buildings, and $12 billion to states to use towards infrastructure needs at community colleges
  • $100 billion in order to give every American access to affordable, reliable, and high-speed broadband
  • $100 billion to workforce development to help dislocated workers, assist underserved groups, and get students on career paths before they graduate high school
  • $18 billion to modernize the Veterans Affairs’ hospitals and $10 billion to modernize federal buildings

Biden’s proposal would be paid for by raising corporate tax to 28% and the global minimum tax to 21%, placing a 15% levy on book income for the largest corporations, and corporate inversions.

We have viewed politicians with suspicion while running for an office and when they are in office based on what they have done and said while in the office. When first stepping into the political arena we want to believe they will bring change for the better according to our personal beliefs and desires, more often than not we are all disappointed, elated or neutral. The past 4 years of the former administration has shown that we have been in the grips of the most vile administration and Congress elected in years. The worst of our long serving legislators now has a slim grip on the government after having had a tighter hold previously. The “tax reform” bill of 2017 has made the “user fee” a heavier load for the voters while touting the reduction of Corporate taxes which was supposed to result in more “trickle down” benefits for the voters, the trickle never happened and was quickly ignored by us-“the voters” when a cloud of other issues was brought above us. We became so swept up in immigration and the ensuing misinformation about immigration along with the untold story of the reduction or stoppage of the aid to the countries where the immigrants originated. This funding reduction and cessation exacerbated the immigration issue along with the halting and piled on legalities of processing immigrants. The user fees are what we as consumers pay to finance the tax reductions for the 1% who pay less or no taxes compared to the 99% of taxpayers. Now the “neer do wells” we call Congress are backing the reworking of voting rules in “their” home states which limit the voting options for us (the voters). These “changes for the better” affect the neediest of us of all colors and ethnicities while the perpetrators if these so called “improvements” keep fomenting the big and small lies for their own benefit. It is our (we the people) duty and right to stand against the people WE elected on any laws that go against our collective interests. Our power is the vote and we can exercise it anytime we want. Our (the voters) major failing has been voting by Rote which is what the political establishment wants and attempts to keep us doing with mass media presentations and great sounding sound bites that mean nothing when analyzed. It is the job of all voters to pay attention to who we elected and what they get and have gotten out of “serving”. Just to put things in perspective: the average annual pay for a Congressional member is $174,000. annually with other office perks like staff and office funding, additional money for committee assignments. At the end of a 20 year term this will be a lifetime earning of about $42,000,000. with an average retirement amount of $73 -80 thousand annually. Before you commit to any party and their members bear in mind that they are politicians and politicians lie for a living and will steal candy from a baby!

We all should be aware that political office was supposed to be and should be about service first however since the inception of this country that has not been the case. We created our political system on other countries and tailored it to our use. The one thing that was not lost in translation was the hyperbole and out right lies. (hence the appropriate spelling of the word PoLItician). It is ironic that two letters in the center of the word explains the person and their actions. Our political system has brought us to the point where the fabled character Pinocchio would be considered truthful. The politicians for the past several years have made lying an art form. This crosses all party lines and has unfortunately made the few that tell some truth pariahs in their own constituencies and parties. The Congressional members who have not supported vaccinations secretly got the vaccines but have not or did not support it for their constituents. They have supported laws that change voting rights and because they determined that one party voted a certain way more than another but ignoring the fact that their own base is also affected (there has been no outcry from that base so far). The GOP could surely be labeled the “TRUMP” party as the current office holders are concerned about losing his “base” who appear to be open to real sounding Lies or “non facts” rather than the unpopular truth. The Trump party has taken misinformation to an art form that the GOP has embraced for their own purposes against the interest of the country and the voters on both sides. We should be reminded that when we vote, we are voting for a person (or should be) who we believe to have integrity. The supporting party is just a vehicle to help one get elected and not necessarily the credo of the individuals even though some follow blindly in the face of real evidence. It is our job (voters) to be aware of what the truth is as we will not find it on every news outlet yet it is out there. Finding the truth involves the work of investigation of news sources and how honest they are. News reporting is supposed be based on what is actual and then neutrally reported as presented with no coloration, that part is best left to the opinion columns. There is no greater crime than deceiving the people who elected you to government office.

The GOP has made a big push to restrict voting in numerous states after the national hew and cry of “voter fraud” by the former guy (who as we know as a consummate liar. The GOP (aka) “Dupublicans” has convinced themselves and their followers that the election was stolen even after 50 plus court challenges and 3 or more recounts that proved them wrong. The 15th amendment of the United States Constitution is quite clear about voting rights and is bolstered by the 1965 voting rights law. The GOP is making perhaps a fatal (to them) attempt to return to “Jim Crow” style voting laws. The GOP is floundering and looking for a way to right their ship after being scuttled by TOTUS and their own hubris. What has been revealed is that the party of Lincoln is no more and has been replaced by the party of “James Crow”. Fortunately the American pubic is not fooled by these court jesters who were elected based on the lies of a miscreant former President whose own lot is playing out in several civilian courts. This is not to discount the failures of the DEM’s aka “Scamocrats” who have in as many ways abrogated their duties to the Country as well. As a country that has been a stable force in the known world for decades we have sadly allowed our miscreant political parties to be pawns by sectarian forces that mirror the early settlers who in the name of religious “right” caused great harm to Native peoples, avowed slavery (because they wanted to or just wanted to profit off the backs of kidnapped people). While the founding Fathers certainly had good intentions in creating a new country yet they did not think in the universal terms of the heady mix of people who populated this new country. We have witnessed in the last 4 years the underlying effect of poor to no governance (of substance) over many years. The “former guy” exploited the anger of America while lining the pockets of the wealthy and lying about “everything”. All of this was aided and abetted by the miscreant Congressional members whose sole purpose (it appears) is to cater to big money donors and their own bank accounts. These politicians have in many cases lulled their constituents into a sense of them against us when in reality it is actually us against us. It is time (or long past) for the voters of America to understand that we have elected Politicians (notice that the the 2 middle letters spell “LI”- “lie”) who have shown us to be beholding to the almighty dollar rather than the almighty voter!
