Category Archives: My Opinion

Mayor Rahm Emanuel has relieved the top policeman of his duties and his job. This come 14 months after an officer shot a civilian 16 times and at least 14 times after the civilian was on the ground. From the top, Mr. Emanuel took over the position of mayor of Chicago and immediately alienated most of the residents, thereafter he barely won a second term. It is regrettable that too many political people do not do their homework when running for office. There is no way to know everything that is required but it is possible to look at the long simmering issues and on going long term problems and attempt to  make a plan to resolve them. As usual that did not happen, what did happen is that the rich handlers and more affluent held sway while the neediest and less affluent got squat! schools were closed in the neediest areas, services were lessened but the Mayor espoused a record of doing good work. Well my opinion is Bu****it! I now pronounce Rahm Emanuel to be less effective than Rahmen Noodles.

Senator McConnell has penned an Op Ed decrying or railing against the Presidents initiatives for cleaner energy and by extension reducing pollution from fossil fuels.   Since Mr. McConnell is from Kentucky  wouldn’t you think he would want to remove the additional health issues surrounding the coal industry which has already taken the lives of thousands of coal miners and even some related industries. It is true there are not many other job opportunities  other than coal but in the 30 plus years the Senator has been in office he has not considered the health of his constituents as long as he was re-elected to office. Now would be a good time to associate himself with the new energy sources which could provide new technology jobs to his state. A real representative would be pushing to get some solar and wind energy into his state which could save some lives. If the revered leaders are not savvy enough to see the future then how can their constituents? Is it possible the Senator is not as kindred in spirit as he has led his voters to believe?

Buzzwords, sound bites and catch phrases are not facts. The current political debates are popularity contests disguised as real information. These aspirants use what they can to excite , arouse and enthuse us with what they believe we want to hear. The reality is –  when the winner  is actually sitting in the Oval office , they will find that the promises, sound bites, buzz words, etc., no longer apply. The reality of the job kicks in like an overdose of caffeine. It will take the first four years to understand the job and act on things that were already in the works. There will be no repealing, revoking or deleting because they will have to be the CIC with military activities occurring in other countries, UN members that need attention aside from their immediate family’s needs. He or she will need to hit the ground running since time stops for no one nor does the country’s business. The question is who do we really want or who do we really need? There are no perfect candidates but we need to dismiss  the debates as  so much fluff or as we would a schoolyard scuffle between second graders. Our job as voters is to determine beyond the debates and oratory of the campaign who feel will do the job if we do not perform this exercise we will not have fulfilled our duty as voters and we can only blame ourselves if we end up with less than the best we can get. There is no such thing as “no matter who I vote for nothing will change”. This is why Illinois has the Governor they currently have and why we have the Congress we have. Remember Congress will be in place after the Presidential elections so who will we blame then?- “Ourselves if we become complacent and place our trust in Politrickers”.

Why is it that billions can be spent on campaigning but none is spent for infrastructure. It is understood that these billions are provided by external sources yet the roads and bridges still need funding. While the politicians argue and jostle for position, the legislation to fund the government for an extended time is  going undone. Suppose these statesman wannabes actually tried to be? The modern political climate is pretty much bought and sold by big money donors whose agenda does not include anything good for the voters of America no matter what they say in the media. In my opinion  anyone , voters, elected officials or even external sources who does not see the always present “handwriting on the wall” is either blind or they do not care that we as a country could have a serious problem. The current political and business climate harkens back to the time of the railroad and steel magnates who helped build this country but some totally disrespected their workers and kept them in virtual poverty and at the so called “lower rungs of society”. It is important to remember that this is not as much a racial issue as a class one. When the clouds roll by and the sky is clear one can readily see that most of us who are not millionaires have been pushed into the same leaky boat no matter what our religion, race or ethnicity is. This is class warfare on a grand scale with a sprinkling of Racism and religious outrage thrown in to muddy the waters. It is unfortunate that some of the folks who are in this boat have allowed their biases  to blind them to the greater problem which is the electorate and Billionaire rulers.

Another reason to grab headlines by the almost neer do well clerk in Kentucky . Kim Davis was among a group of people who collectively met with the pontiff as a simple meeting but her backers deemed it a private meeting with the Pope. There was no one on one meeting with the Pope and none of the events surrounding her were brought up.  This coopting of  an otherwise  benign event by her Attorney and Davis is an indication that her religious beliefs do not rule out  falsehoods to further her agenda and that of her backers. It appears that  Davis , her lawyers and backers do not understand “separation of church and State”. Her sole job is to issue licenses according to the law and her personal opinions or beliefs are not (or should not be) involved. What if she were attacked for being divorced and married several times , would that be a reason for her to be dismissed from her job?, or perhaps kicked out of her chosen religious sect? To further add non facts to the fire Senator Huckabee ( a candidate contender and staunch defender / supporter of Mrs. Davis) appeared on the :Morning Joe” to defend his stand according his understood or perceived biblical facts. Apparently as in several outlier religions the true Biblical wording is interpreted to fit the mindset of the Sect’s leaders.  In America the assortment of Religions are not singled out due to their belief’s no matter how radical, at the same time their influence has no place in politics or the pursuit of an elected office. It is unfortunate that some pundits and other vocal presenters chose to align with misinformed and  sometimes over zealous people for the recognition that association brings. Do we want an elected official in any  office to dictate how we worship? Enter Kim Davis, her official duties have no other purpose than to issue licenses and not foist her religious beliefs on the people she was elected to serve.

The Kentucky clerk who refuse to do her job due to religious objections is no different than the religious radicals who are wreaking havoc in the middle east
except so far she has not planted a bomb or otherwise physically assaulted anyone. In context, she has caused mental anguish to many people. She is supported by many, who like her interpret the bible in a skewed fashion (think Radical Islam) because she does not approve of a life style. This is the same thinking that unfortunately still exists for radical sects who oppose anyone who is not white but are religiously stunted and in a word a bigot on many fronts. It is unfortunate that our country has progressed so far only to have these types of incidents point out our lack of progress in ALL areas. If the “Anti’s” would really take a good look at themselves and their own place in the world perhaps they would see that this is one of the few countries where they can air these issues without being jailed for life (however you can be jailed for defying a legal court directive).

Why is it that so many folks attack, tweet and otherwise vilify Fox News? If you do not agree with them why waste time viewing them? The best way to deal with “Faux” news is to not look at them. It is common knowledge that the media “giant” is not a valid presenter of real news and an ardent purveyor of  “check out stand “style information. This station has long been an outlet that values misinformation above real journalism. Look at its luminaries ”

Bill O’Reilly-History teacher out to sell books at any cost

Glenn Beck- Ultra Conservative newsman who was a darling of the Republican party until he wasn’t

Elizabeth Hasselback- Semi knowledgeable presenter- error prone-

Ann Coulter- Racist incarnate , has one aim sell book that denigrate whoever it takes to sell a book and play to the insecurities,  racial hatred of certain segments of the population (who if they knew her would hate her).

We as hopefully rational people need to proceed cautiously in our support of incorrect and misapplied  information, while your personal beliefs are your own, they should be supported by truth rather than speculation and again misapplied information. It is entirely possible that failing to look at all sides of an issue will result in a poor judgment in electing our representatives. Anyone can present information that you like but not many present what you don’t like.

The mess that is America erupted in a clash between 2 radical groups, one Black and one white. This is the only country where freedom of speech and expression is universal even when those actions are not universally popular or accepted. The extremeness of the hate and vitriol went viral over social media and the news. These recent actions are the result of the Confederate battle flag being removed from a Southern State capitol. The controversy took on a life of its own when Historians and Extremely “biased”  spoke out against the removal but for different reasons. The “EB’S” consider it a symbol of their “Whiteness and privilege”  while the Historians consider it a part of  Confederate history as it relates to relatives who served in the Civil war. Whoever is Correct(?)the dustup show that there are still pockets of Radical Racism which are violent and potentially dangerous to non white residents of this country. Is it just me or has the Covert Racism of the United States emerged full-blown after the election of a Black man to the Presidency of the United States? This phenomenon(?) has been exacerbated by our high placed political leaders(?) who use the racial fears of their constituents to keep their offices and push their agendas which help no one but them selves and their big money donors. America was founded by immigrants who over time “stole”  the lands and resources from the “Native Americans” but that was OK or made Ok by the powers in the Government. That is similar or the same as the Government sanctioned segregation of years ago and still covertly occurs today. So today in 2015  we are fighting the civil war, a race war and a political war all of which are fueled by folks whose sole purpose is to keep the uneasiness between Races and people in general in order to maintain control of the Government  by way of electing purchasable officials. So I have to ask: When will we belong?

The Middle East for several thousands of years has been a war zone in one area or another and by the same people (in ethnicity and religious beliefs). The names of the countries and the groups of people have changed over the years but the issues have remained the same. The intervention of Europeans and Westerners  did no more than exacerbate the issues primarily because we did not understand them. Even today we do not have a handle on the real issues yet we are still involved in their business (often without being invited). I am not against assistance but to what end? I believe that our messy intervention has more to do with the companies and or individuals who have the most to gain in these countries by supplying arms and other material support at the behest or at least with a wink of the government eye. This is not to say that as a country we condone these activities but possibly through some lobbying interests the activities occur.  Lobbyists usually approach folks who can help their causes, these folks could be in the administration, Congress or even Congressional staffers. These contacts for the sense of power, a promise of  work after an election or term of office and of money which for the payee can be substantial will, can and have committed breaches of  security. We as voters can complain for or against assistance but we do not fully understand ALL of the issues and may never get the true story until we access several sources to get a full picture. First and foremost we must not rely on the information issued by people running for office, this adherence to their message is as flawed as petting a snake and assume you will not be bitten. We as a country have allowed  our political groups to advertise us into voting for and approving their actions. It is these actions that have caused us more problems than we need or deserve but “WE Did IT!”
