Using the Jewish people as the scapegoat, Hitler and his cronies orchestrated what they called “the big lie.” This theory states that no matter how big the lie is (or more precisely, because it’s so big), people will believe it if you repeat it enough. Everyone tells small lies, Hitler reasoned, but few have the guts to tell colossal lies. It appears that He was correct in that assessment of people, especially when their situations are dire. We have been spoon fed more big lies than Adolph could have imagined but it concerns a more diverse population than the one that existed  over 60 plus years ago. Once a lie is told it quickly become a pseudo truth as it grows in size and seems more believable due to the trauma of the  existing conditions (in our case, the economy). Our so called leaders have seen this bust coming for the past 10 or more years yet have done nothing in the hope that it will all work out. At the same time they have been busily pointing fingers at one another while accomplishing no more than a rush of hot air infused with half truths , no truths and untruths. We must remember that during this time the Legislators have drawn their same pay with increases along with the nice retirement and healthcare package. If the legend of Pinocchio were true there would be no room to stand in the Legislatures across the country.

Many lessons in school are learned by rote yet we often forget them. The single lesson (s) we cannot seem to remember is that ALL politicians lie! There are no honest politicians. There are some who have better values but each one of them has “fudged” the truth when speaking to constituents, this fudging is often used to “protect” us from the real truth which they seem to believe we cannot handle. We voters are all adults and even if some are newly minted , we are not ignorant to the facts of life beyond our front doors. The modern world is so inundated with media coverage on all events from the mundane to the sublime so few events remain uncovered. The only exceptions are the ones our representatives do not want us to know (to protect us and themselves).  Illinois has a reputation as a corrupt state but that reputation is mislabeled as the State is  not corrupt, it is the policy makers and political “movers and shakers”. This is evident by the Governors closing of prisons, failing to fairly negotiate with the trade unions  and other missteps due to errors in judgement. These problems do not belong solely to the Governor as much if not more falls directly on the shoulders of the State representatives, a recent example is the vote of an absent representative entered by a colleague. This was explained by a statement that this is done routinely and is no big deal. If the representatives cannot be on the job when necessary, why do we need them? One more time, it is incumbent on the voters to correct this situation by removing long serving legislators and electing new ones who serve at our behest and will correct the ills of the past. The first item on the agenda should be term limits, salary and perks review. The primary effect this will have is no more pensions for lawmakers as most if not all of them have careers that pay them well enough.

A discussion today covered the Illinois Governor and the ongoing labor issues along with the events that affect the state in general. The governor has been loudly booed by labor unions affected by upcoming Prison closures and other budget issues. The Illinois Dupublicans are positioning themselves to attempt a take over of the Governors office and the Legislature however nothing will change as I have seen no indication of the Dupublicans making any concerted effort “fix” anything. The two parties (Scamocrats and Dupublicans) have failed to live up to the bargain made with the people and that is to represent them and insure we receive the services and assistance we pay our taxes for. The only solution is to remove as many tenured Legislators as possible regardless of party and start fresh with some one new. We need to be willing to do this every election year until we get what we need. Our goal needs to be people who are willing to make changes in the State constitution that require term limits and salary changes that reflect a parity with their constituents. The term limits I believe  make sense is a single term of 13 years and no pension beyond what they contribute to and social security like the rest of us. Their expense budget needs to be reviewed to eliminate any funds that may exceed what is absolutely necessary to get their official work done. Any other funding needs to be approved  the people. Our part in this is to stop the “me” grab of services and allow the system to take care of all us and especially the most needy.

I read and viewed a short clip on a rant about the Government. What keeps me from  inserting that clip here in the language, it has as many expletives as ordinary words.  The gist of the message was the Government  cannot balance their check book.  This is apparently true since our fiscal state is dire. Our  self serving Scamocrats and Dupublicans have spent more time politicking than earning the money they usurp from the public coffers under the guise of public service. These “representatives”  have used  irrelevant and immaterial issues to avoid doing what they need to do. It seems to be  normal procedure to cloud the issues by attacking one another rather than expending any effort to collaborate on some viable solutions. The party system is irreparably broken and is no longer a means of getting government work done. I propose no more party’s, a 13 year term limit and a salary adjusted to what an average middle class American has to live on. To further improve this position, no per diem for overtime, no more free postage, no pension other than social security  (when eligible). No more free lunch for Congress. They should not be allowed to cross over to the Lobbyist side after serving for 10 years. The only way for this to happen is when we the voters start voting them out and demanding these changes , especially the term limit.

The Governors views and possible action on “assault weapons” is ludicrous as well as a political ploy. The Gov should be concentrating on getting the States fiscal house in order rather than  his cloying blurb on “assault Weapons”. I would venture to say that in Illinois the so called “assault weapons” are in hands of responsible collectors and owners rather than folks bent on wiping whole sectors of the population. It is clear that the Colorado event was perpetrated by a disturbed individual and you cannot legislate against “crazy”.  We can’t even legislate against our own “crazy” legislature let alone individuals. If the Governor really wants to do something useful, allow concealed carry. The current FOID rules could be modified to accommodate this if the legislature is not involved. Currently most individuals who would apply and qualify for concealed carry are already trained in the handling and use of firearms.

“The cheaper the hood, the gaudier the patter” This was a line from a Bogart movie. Which I have heard many times yet it never registered until a recent viewing. It resonated possibly because of the constant reporting on  the Dupublican candidate for President. The seeker has a scripted set of lines and answers to any and all questions and the responses become so ritualistic as to be unbelievable. Sometimes these answers are structured to fit each location or area so the line from the movie  seems to fit. This campaign amounts to a shouting match that America seems to love. I deduced this love affair from the many “reality” , Guru, personal and judge shows that air daily. I understand that people will decide based on their gut feelings, information, misinformation, personal biases but rarely facts. Each candidate’s writers attempt to one up on the others while extorting the correctness in voting for their “guy”. The reality is that there will never ever be a perfect candidate for President. There will be candidates with better qualifications but none across the board perfect. The purpose of campaigns is to showcase the strengths and abilities of the candidate not their race, religion or wealth yet these are the basis of many campaigns nad tend to confuse potential voters while creating the air of daytime TV fodder as described previously. I suggest that we all dismiss the TV appearances and pay more attention to the written word from several sources to get a clearer idea of who each candidate is. If you really look you will see all manner of lesser non running affiliates of each side injecting just enough dirt to cause a diversion which is quickly put to rest but a distraction none the less. If a blurb from someone gets media coverage it could be gaudy patter gone viral.
