Category Archives: My Opinion

The Israeli Prime minister and the Dupublican house Speaker appear to be in lock step against the President of the United States. While the President and several other countries are attempting to put together a peaceful solution on Iran’s nuclear situation these two are coalescing for no other reason than to scuttle the negotiations. I believe neither of then has a clue as to the damage they are doing. Their actions only spurs the resolve of the hardliners in Iran and their terrorist allies (Issel, Boka Haram and others). It is odd that Israel is so against a Palestinian state when they had to fight for theirs. There are terrorists in every country in the world some less violent but they are still terror driven groups. These two have formed a coalition that is doomed to failure whatever their goal is. Their actions could have long and possibly disastrous consequences for all of us. The Dupublican party as  I see them have the sole objective of reducing the neediest of us to abject poverty by any means possible while invoking what they say we want (or their constituents) but underneath are the huge money people who want their agendas to be in play with no regard for the people who buy their products or use their services. Our current Congress is shortsighted yet have convinced their followers and themselves that they can and are doing a better job. Which is it- serving the people or themselves?

Is it about time we looked at this situations seriously? Some police groups are concerned about their supposed lack of support by their municipalities however have they really looked at what the effect of their actions are? did you make mistakes? Were mistakes made by the now victims? If we were to put aside our learned biases and perceived knowledge, what would be the outcome? I know from personal experience that it s easy to fall into the rut of common knowledge about many things and people. Where we all need to be is on the same or even similar  planes of thought and realities. Many or most of us have met and worked with people who are different in many ways but we consider them friends and colleagues. We probably do not consider  their religious, personal or other leanings and proclivities to be an advantage or deterrent to our relationship with them but we will look at people we do not know and judge them out of hand. This is called bias, prejudice or bigotry. It is unfortunate that too many of us  never look at how we interact with all other people and make an attempt to do better if we need to. The real issue is our “leaders” in the political arena have for the past 10 to 15 years used bigotry as wedge and  coercive agent to gain elective advantages. It is unfortunate that some of us haven’t realized that your fellow Americans are not the problem-the problem is with the people we have elected. Their focus is and always has been remaining in office and maintaining the power with that office. Our collective objective as voters needs to be holding the elected officials accountable and not be persuaded by  half truths, racial or ethnic  slurs that many of us have heard time after time. America is a multiracial, multi-ethnic  and  ultimately humane country that is (in spite of what is in the media) aspired to by other countries. To continue being who we are, our changes need to be in our government.

The new majority Congress is again acting “on behalf of the American people” with out our consent. This Congress with the backing of big money and the help of closeted bigots is aiding our enemies indirectly with the withholding of funding for the agency  (Homeland Security) that provides protection for us all. There are members who have stated that the funding should not be held up but the top dogs or curs of the Congress are at a loss to control their members and are hoping to keep an edge for the upcoming 2016 elections. These masters of ineptitude are showing us now how bad they really are since they do not have the Scamocrats to blame. How is it doing the work of “The American People” when they put us at risk to satisfy the few?  If ” The American People ” was really their concern, they would have acted appropriately on the ACA (Obama care) and the emigration bill . All that was required was for them to do the job they were elected to by the “real American People” not the fictional ones they are so fond of quoting. This is not about Race, ethnicity or anything else, it just about inept politicians whom we trusted and have now betrayed that trust. Our job (the real American People) is simple, we vote them out and trust nothing that passes from their lips!

The now empowered Dupublican Congress has been warming up to push its agenda which will not benefit most Americans (or “The American People”) that the Dupublicans are so fond of “quoting”. Currently the now empowered Congress is moving on a path of party implosion with the internal  sub sects jostling for power while advocating for their most vocal (and well-heeled) supporters (not “the American People”). At this time the Congress is busy trying to undo the Dodd -Frank bill which regulates the banking industry in favor of “the American People”, the immigration reform which favors “the American People” and the Keystone XL pipeline which does not favor “the American People”. Given that “the American people” is composed of many ethnic groups who range in skin tone from black to snow white could we make the case of “innate racism”  by the now empowered Dupublican Congress?

All of the recent controversy over Cuba, immigration and other Presidential acts have overshadowed the long range effect of these actions.  The immigration action which was avoided by the Dupublicans and some Scamocrats because of mid term elections has not aided these factions because with the actions of this immigration initiative more people will be able to take a drivers test, be accounted for on the tax rolls and  pay taxes. Many of the affected will coincidently not spend nights in jail for driving illegally. The normalization of relations with Cuba negates some of Russian influence on the island and allows families to resume legal visits. There is no doubt the Castro regime will not necessarily do a 360 change but the people will reap the benefit of a “freer” society and educational opportunities. There are those who feel that the Regime is  evil and that feeling may never change but for many this change will be of great benefit. The promise of Cuba is in the new type of freedom , limited as it is. The political aspirants in this country who are of Cuban descent should recognize the potential of this situation but they have staunchly  railed against it. Perhaps these aspirants are not the people we should elect to higher office.

The Dupublican majority has stated the intention of dismantling the ACA (Obama care) leaving millions with no coverage (good luck on that one) forgetting that future elections may depend on their actions. One of the best things to happen with the Dupublican being in majority is Senator John McCain’s election as head of Armed Forces Chair. Senator McCain is one of the better informed members of Congress and his knowledge of the armed forces is extraordinary.  briefly: Bill Cosby-Does it matter after 30 years? A 15-year-old at the playboy club (where were her parents?). Any other alleged incidents why now and there is no gain or win in this at all.

Mitch McConnell: 30 years of opportunistic flip-flopping and targeted horse changing to be the Senate leader, can he be trusted? Finally Rush and Bill. Is Mr. Limbaugh so racist that he would deny an actor’s ability to play a role because it doesn’t fit his idea of the character? Further how can speak for another country just because they are racially similar, get a grip   Rush. Bill (O’Reilly) do you really know anything about Mayor Di Blasio and the New York situation? When you have researched it as you supposedly have done in your books, then perhaps you can comment. Being a commentator on Faux news does not negate the need for factual reporting or comment.

Mr. O’Reilly of Faux news is commenting  on the Mayor of New York and as usual has no clue what is going on except what has been written and presented. Anyone who comments on what is occurring in other cities with limited or no facts as far as I am concerned is  being disingenuous with their audience. The broad context of a situation has no room for comment, it is only when ALL of the facts are known  can anyone make reasonable competent comments and judgments. Mr. O’ Reilly should be aware of this as he is a writer of historic novels unless his credential’s in that field are suspect.

The recent news in Ferguson, MO. could be looked at from the view of John Brown or perhaps Nat Turner. If indeed the Police situation in Ferguson is as bad as it has been portrayed then maybe  John Brown or Nat Turner were correct. If the situation in Ferguson is as bad as put forth by the residents then maybe “spike Lees’ film  “do The Right Thing” was correct. Each instance depicts an aggressive stance against  an authority that mirror’s the ante bellum south and even South Africa in the recent past. If the “white’ citizens of Ferguson knew about the abusive nature of the police and did nothing then perhaps they are as culpable as the authorities. All American citizens have the “right” to freedom of expression under the law but even now that appears to be elusive in some parts of the USA with the citizenry standing on the sidelines and accepting it as long it doesn’t happen to them. There are still some of us who accept the inequity of the “color line” as white privilege until it arrives at their doorstep, then it becomes “those people”. It is possible that at some point all of us will arrive at the same destination without a “Ferguson” and then there will be equality.

The Dupublicans now have control of the Congress, it is now time to put up or shut up. As an aside this past election shows how terms are managed by people not lawmakers.

I was listening to “On point” today and the guest was Russell Brand ( the comedian). He has written a book that some would call anarchy but I would say that he  is talking about Americans (or any “free” countries) taking back control of their country. The plan is simple and I have advocated this for a long time-term limits. In case you haven’t thought about it, our Congress has served too long and have lost touch with the much touted “American People”. Even though many of us know that the Congress will not set term limits for themselves (much like they will not legislate against the “revolving door” of politics and lobbying) we still expect them to do the “right thing”. Russell Brand’s book merely points out what I have stated all along term limits is the power of the people to vote for or against a candidate. If we as multiracial. multicultural and international country would at last decide to make the needed changes in government, then term limits would be set by the simple act of voting. Political campaigns have become no more than extensive mud slinging advertisements and events to coerce (yes coerce), bully or badger us into voting for them. If a candidate (incumbent or not) has to use these tactics to win then we need to vote for his opponent even if we  are not sure of them.It must be ever present in our minds that  limiting terms is the power  of  the people and our vote is our trump in the card game. It is time the Americans (all of us) stopped playing the game the politicians have put before us and change the rules in our favor , much as they have done for years. Term limits- “OUR POWER!”.

Recent and ongoing events in the Near and Middle east will eventually affect us all. We as a nation can understand in various degrees what is needed to secure certain parts of those areas and hopefully bring cease fires and peace. Our deeper understanding is explainable by remembering the prelude to WWII. This prelude if anyone has paid attention was televised in a series called the “World Wars”. Aside from the personalities explored, there were the actions and events. These actions and events gave rise to the WWII personalities some of whom began the building a foundation of eventual murder, mayhem and intolerance that fueled the final madness of A. Hitler. This individual caused the devastation of  his Nation and betrayed his “Allies”. The Japanese were duped into the war by Hitler by virtue of their feelings of being slighted at the peace table after WWI (they felt dishonored ). All of this to bring us to the present and past at the same time. There has been conflict in the middle east for thousands of years and primarily on a religious basis. Now with modern weapons several factions are determined to do what Hitler attempted to do and impose their will and religion on others even their own countrymen. The UN at best is protesting but doing nothing of merit. The US is being looked to for help and we have given it but we as a country can no longer afford to lead the charge alone, we need the collective assistance of the UN (that is part of their function). We have Russia attempting to return to the post WWI “glory” days of Stalinism in the midst of the middle east problem. As a country our President is attempting to stay out of another protracted conflict and it’s inherent negatives. The big winners in all out conflict led by the US are the same people who are backing many of our Congressmen and women with boatloads of cash. The Shadow people who have benefitted from recent Supreme Court decisions and the stale mate in Congress. Simply put-this is not our “Grandfathers war”. Recently I had to have some software issues resolved on line with an out of country source (India). While we  make jokes about outsourcing but in many cases now the communication is better but still takes awhile to resolve the problems. As I was waiting for stuff to happen the agent engaged me in conversation and in the course of this conversation, I asked where he was located and he told me he was in India. I asked what his opinion of the events occurring in that part of the world and in succinct terms he said: “the ordinary people are just trying to keep their heads down and hope for the best outcome for them. The government  is in dysfunction much as ours is and we just want things to be better.” This leads me to understand that we as people in general need to put more attention on what our government is doing or not doing rather than what is written by the media in general. There are still some media content providers who still provide comprehensive coverage and reporting but the “mainstreamers” in the media are still presenting the attention-getting headlines with no content. It appears to me that reading between the lines should be the rule and not the exception in these times.
