Hey guys,

A couple of days ago a storm came through here that was crazy. I’ve never seen that much hail and rain.  It reminded me of when I was living in my old house. Every time there was a bad storm I had to go through some major things to get the lights back on in the house. One time there was a storm so bad that lightning hit the house and all the power went out. I looked across the street and my neighbor had power, so I knew the problem was just in my house.
Stay with me, I’m going somewhere here…
I knew I had to get to the circuit breaker to fix what was going on. Now, in my old house, the breaker box was in the attic, and in order to get to it I had to climb a ladder, go up a flight of stairs and then climb over an air conditioning unit, all the while trying to not step through the ceiling joist or I would go straight through the sheet rock. And imagine trying to do all of this in the dark. But I had to do it if I wanted lights on in my house.
I got to the breaker box and started turning the breakers back on. For those of you who are not up on your DIY (do it yourself, LOL), the circuit breakers protect the house from further damage by turning themselves off if they get too much power or pull too much power to them.
As I was thinking about this yesterday I started thinking about us as people, as souls… me, you and any other human on this planet. What is common about us all is that we all, at one time or another, will go through or have been through a storm, and sometimes the storms are so bad that they turn off circuit breakers in our lives. We can look at others who have gone through the same storm and they are fine, like my neighbor across the street. They had power, but I was in the dark. Same storm, but it affected me differently. Many people can have the same experience and get over it but it affects each of us differently. Never let someone tell you to just get over it because they did. It’s not that simple.
When circuit breakers shut down in our lives they usually turn off to protect us from trauma, but just because they turn off doesn’t mean that they are supposed to stay off. A lot of times we leave them off because we don’t want to do all that is necessary to reach the breaker box to turn them back on. So what happens? We begin to live a life that is not as bright and fulfilling as it was originally designed to be. You just stay in the dark because it’s easier to not go through what you need to go through for healing. Trust me, I’ve been there, lived there for a while until I realized that I wanted all the lights on in my soul. I had to get these breakers back on.
Why am I saying this to you? Well I know that God designed all of us to live the fullest life that we can, to live in the light, love and joy. It is my hope and prayer today that you will start to do the work to turn on some of the breakers that may have been turned off in your life by difficult moments. What do I mean by that? If you have a dream and you stopped dreaming because it got too hard, that’s a breaker that went off. Turn it back on. If you decided that you wouldn’t love anyone else because you’ve been hurt, that’s a breaker that’s been turned off. Turn it back on. If you have decided to give up on life because nothing seems to go right, that’s a breaker that went off. Turn it back on. If you have given up on your kids because they won’t do the right thing, that’s a breaker that went off. Turn it back on.
You see what I mean? Go through your life and look at all the people who have hurt you. Look at all the situations that have left you in the dark. Turn those breakers back on. Live in a full house. One of my favorite scriptures says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father, which is in heaven.”  Light up your soul!

Franklin Roosevelt said “we have nothing to fear but fear itself”, This is not the entire quote and it’s related content but unfortunately we do have something to fear. What we have to be completely fearful of are the firmly entrenched 535 members of Congress who by their stubborn adherence to political malfeasance in the guise of Legislating have put us in a war we could not hope to win, an economic morass that we cannot hope to get out of without some tough choices. All the while they have protected their wages, pensions and health care. This unfortunately is not an isolated case, we have the same events occurring in every state and many communities. The people we voted in office have failed to do anything related to problem solving but still draw the salaries and benefits they so richly do not deserve. We as voters have allowed our legislators and public administrators to do what we were led to believe was correct and prudent. It is apparent to me that our faith in the government as a whole is a mistake. Our needs are for elected officials who will do the work required for what we as voters consider correct pay and benefits not what they surreptitiously give themselves. When we (their bosses) decide we have has enough then we will begin to un elect these losers so we can win for a change.

In the course of past several days I have heard the following: the first black Republican President, this is after the apparent disconnect of the Dupublican party with the majority of the country over the past 2 presidential elections. When will the political parties understand that dividing the populace into segments has no modern day value or relativity? The milestones in America have been accented by the first, Black man, the first Back woman, the first Woman, the first Jewish person, the first Catholic or the first person of any gender, Race  and  religious persuasion. The political process has accented these issues to point of exacerbating situations that are of no real importance to most Americans. What we all want, desire and so desperately need is an end to media exploitation of the differences among Americans as news or entertainment. Imagine if the elected officials we currently have really paid attention to ALL of their constituents as they purport to, we would (I venture to say) have a better economy is spite of the problems that exist. Under the guise of protecting us these elected tacit hate mongers have created rifts where there were none and those rifts are propagated by people who are too young and inexperienced to realize where this nation came from. One could read the Constitution from end to end and still not have a complete picture of what we are about but our Congress assumes that ability by the so called power of the Office and the Oath they took upon assuming the duties of that office. The power they have is from the people and not the mantle of office. We the  people give that power by virtue of our votes and donations so it is within our power to remove them for cause by the power of the same vote. If as voters we stop picketing start voting away from party lines , we will see the fruits of those labors quicker than a picket line. Remember many big spenders support groups that benefits them not necessarily All  Americans.

Many of the cuts in State and Federal budgets affect education, health and retirement. The people who are proposing these cuts seem to be exempt from the effects of these cuts. These proposals and actions get a lot of media attention yet the only people making any statements about them are the hardline conservatives who already feel the government spends too freely. There is nothing wrong with conservative spending by governments but not on the backs of education, pension and health. There is a median point where all parties can agree but political party bickering and electioneering get in the way. The ability to make rational choices in law making is supposed to be the expertise of the people we have elected, unfortunately we are not blessed or cursed with even a marginal amount rational thought. We are hammered daily by reports of one legislator or another  supporting or proposing a budget of some sort without solutions.  Can we afford to ignore the long term effects of education, pension and healthcare reforms that offer  vague short term  relief? The American education and social security system are broken yet we have a houseful of Representatives who do not appear to have the ability to resolve the problems. The Individual states and municipalities that receive their various shares of Federal funding are suffering from cuts and the inability to successfully raise enough local funds for these programs. The painful solution to this morass is the drying up of “vote by rote” elections and more voting for non standard candidates.

After many years the word “boodie” as used in the “black” vernacular has been misappropriated into modern language as “booty”. This is totally wrong! The word is now mainstream (I guess) so it has to be spelled in an upscale way. No matter what upscale ,down scale or no scale it is pronounced “booodie” not “Booty”. A booty is footwear, whether for a tot or grown up , it is a booty. Let’s go over it again: “Boodie” is a part of the anatomy, “booty” is foot wear!

The recent dustup about and from Bill O’Reilly is indicative of the unseeing and not willing to know what the true facts are in the budget negotiations. It is easy to push the envelope of truth in the name of journalism but to get fact appears to be out his grasp. If the time were spent on obtaining all of the facts as far where the economy is at this time compared to where it came from the story may be different. There have been numerous accounts from economists well known and not so well known that show that in spite of fiscal cliffs and sequesters the economy is growing at a steady but slow pace. The jobs are returning, more people are working, the exceptions are the people who have just stopped looking for work. The ability of well known naysayers, naboobs (not an error) and high profile commentators to stretch, shrink and otherwise alter the truth is the reason many people have no correct idea  where the economy really is. It is OK to consider these opinions (and that is exactly what they are) but the truth while not as loud is always there in plain sight. Between  high profile politicians and high profile political entertainers the public has a very narrow window of truth. We as readers, listeners and voters need to take advantage of that window by looking at all sides and not accept as fact ALL of the offerings from these known talkers.

For the past 8 years the Erstwhile Congress has shown that it as a body is seemingly unable to do what they were elected to do. That is do whats best for all of the people and not just big donors, lobbyists and the loudest screamers. The majority of America’s voters do not scream and yell but they are vocal about what matters to them. The Congress (both parties) have espoused ideas of  what the American people want, these unfounded citations are no more than appeasement to the constituency that matters most to them. That constituency is not the “American People” that has been so widely cited. As a voter I am staunchly for Government working as it should not necessarily as I want it to. What we want is not necessarily what we need but these seat fillers take requests like a lounge singer with the payoff being  enacting or delaying legislation that benefits their retention or after Congress well being. It is evident that our Congress has failed long before Mr. Obama, both Bush’s, Clinton and beyond. The idea of being in Congress and what can they can get out of it seems to be the driving force , not a sense of service. There may never be a great or upstanding member of Congress in my lifetime but I will certainly do my part by always voting for a new office seeker rather than an incumbent. Congress will never set term limits on themselves so it is up to the voters to impose those limits through the balloting process. Remember a run for a political office is not about serving, it is about power and prestige which does not benefit the voters.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney of  “shooting his attorney and Halliburton” fame has loudly criticized the current nominees to the Presidents cabinet. This was done at a Republican gathering in Wyoming. It is certainly easy to point fingers when one feels that their hands are clean. This is a person who is apparently  more anti-American than some of our Asian allies. His dealings as CEO of a company that gouged the government during the WMD search and subsequent war in Iraq which cost billions in money and untold numbers of American lives to no good end needs to be held up for scrutiny as the self serving idiot he is. It is under stood that he absented himself from the actions of Halliburton but the company should never have gotten a government contract at all. Now the ( I consider) neer do well ex vice president will receive the gift of secret service protection for the next few years at our expense. How much more will he gouge the voters for? We have a vapid Congress that has through several Presidents done as little as possible until their hand was forced. Now that the current President has pushed the envelope the seat fillers have become outraged. As voters the outrage should be ours. There will never be a law creating term limits but the voters can set those limits by merely voting against the current members. We do not need a party or parties to tell us who to vote for, we do not need special interests to give us an opinion or validate our opinions, we just need to exercise our voting rights according to our own common sense and desires. As citizens of one of the Free countries in the world we have the ability to change the government from the outside of politics by merely voting ineffective officials out of office. This action should have nothing to do with Race or  Religion,  just what is best for all of us. Remember a political ad is just that -an ad- and like all ads is designed to sell you something.

Our national fiscal health has been failing for years yet our 535 + set fillers are moving forward as if they have no clue to what actions are required to move us forward (or even backwards). The so called “fiscal cliff” is upon us but the fickle finger of Congress points to the Commander-in-Chief. The CIC is only in office (not power) for 4 to 8 years while the 535 have been in place ( most of them) for 12  or more years. In this years they have decided (I guess) that since we have re-elected them time after time that they do not need to put forth any effort and just wait for the next election. This is reminiscent of the haphazard (to say the least) operation of many of our major companies, banks and retail stores.  In comparison: have you ever gone to a retail store , one in which you have shopped before and found your favorite item (s) were out of stock. Did you wait until they had the item in stock or go elsewhere to make your purchase?

Should we wait until the “cows come home” before we start to remove the long term Congress from their comfortable seats?

The prostate, a gland about the size of a walnut whose function is primarily sexual yet can be a problem area later in life. As men age the prostate depending on family history and possibly external  causes can become enlarged. This size change can result in the ability to urinate from poor to none. In either case it results in a visit to your primary physician, who will usually refer you to a urologist. The cure can range from medication to extreme measures such as surgery.  The surgery on the extreme side involves removal of the gland and resecting the urethra as it is surrounded by the gland. The surgery is common  and reserved for extreme instances of cancer or last effort after other treatments do not resolve the problem. Odd that a small gland can create a glitch such as being unable to p or do it in a normal fashion. Every man I know dreads the “finger wave” when taking a physical but this”wave” is an important diagnostic tool even if it doesn’t feel that way at the time. Which would you think is better a wave or a funeral?
